What You Need:
Hot Glue Gun
(I used 4 gift cards but you can do more or less. Just be sure to purchase additional paper if needed)
How to Make:
Start by measuring the inside of your box. Make sure it is wide enough to fit a gift card in. It needs to be alerted than an earnings or ring box. Make sure it is rectangular.
Using the measurement for the inside of the box, take your scrapbook paper and cut it down to size. I cut one page in half and was able to get two sheets out of it.
Their wedding colors were red and blue, so I decided to use red scrapbook paper for their gift. I would suggest using a solid color, so that the pattern doesn’t clash with designs on your gift cards.
Then I measured the width of my box, to know how wide the folds would need to be in the paper. After they were marked, I used my amazing Martha Stewart Scoring Board to make smooth folds.
If you haven’t seen one of these before they are fantastic! These make smooth lines that are easy to fold. Without making wrinkles in the paper. You know what I’m talking about!
You can make some really neat things with it. I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby but you can also find it on Amazon or other craft stores.
If you choose to, you can make a half inch tab on each end of each page. Which I used to secure the paper inside the box, by glueing it to the inside of the box, as shown below.
Once the lines are scored, I used an accordion method to fold the paper. Back and forth, the opposite direction with each fold. Like so…
Here you can see one page is scored, while the other is already folded.
Now glue both pages together. take one of the small half inch tabs and glue it to the top of the other page. Making sure NOT to glue it to the half inch tab on the other page.
Glue the half in tab to the regular width tab like in the image above. Leaving the half tabs exposed to glue to the lids.
I collected my gift cards and made sure to write the dollar amount on the back with a sharpie.
Swig- “When you need a drink to beat the summer heat!”
Chic fi la- “When you need a bite to eat!”
Movies- “When you need something to do!”
Cold Stone- “When you need a sweet treat!”
If you choose to do the same thing, I will attach the pdf for the sayings if you want to use them.
With a glue stick, I attached the paper sayings. To attach the gift cards to the paper, I used a hot glue. Squeeze a small dot of glue in the center of the page, letting it cool for a couple of seconds before pressing the card on top.
TaDa! Simple as that.
I made my own bow out of paper, which I glued to the top of the lid. So simple to make and very adorable. Perfect for occasions when you need a bow but don’t have one!
A blog post on how to make them, to come!
Thoughts by L:
Our sweet friend recently got married! We were beyond thrilled that he found someone he truly loves, to build a life together.
We wanted to give them something fun, instead of making a quick click using their wedding registry.
So that’s when I decided to make them a gift card, date night box. It was so simple, I thought I would share!
Perfect for weddings, thank you gifts or Christmas.
